Through the years, I have had the great privilege to work with one of Britain’s greatest landscape photographers, Julian Calverley. His photography is second-to-none. A fantastic 101 books made it onto the shortlist, but only 19 winners could be crowned. ‘North Northwest’, was the star of the night, triumphing in the Best British Book category and winning the title of overall Book of the Year.

A PHOTOGRAPHIC BOOK

The iPhone is ubiquitous and empowering; the potential of its camera less so. When I saw the images kept on Julian Calverley’s phone I was blown away. The creativity injected into his images produce wonderful, evocative landscapes that were calling out to be reproduced in print. So I designed and printed #iPhoneonly, the book. The 60 pager has gorgeous photography on every spread. Today’s social media renders great photography a fleeting experience; viewed, swiped and gone in a nano-second. This book is an attempt to give greater respect to the skill of one of Britain’s greatest landscape photographers more than just seen on a phone. My ambition is for the books to be kept, to be enjoyed at a slower pace and to be treasured.

An advantage phones do have over lithographic printing is the luminosity of the screen. So it is vitally important that you pick a printer that will work tirelessly to reproduce images as detailed as an RGB image within the CMYK opportunity. Not easy. But it is achievable.
